When the family behind Bordeaux First Growth Château Mouton Rothschild sets out to make a wine, they aim to create an icon. The 2016 Domaine de Baronarques red, from the family’s property in the South of France, won a 97-point Platinum designation from the Decanter World Wine Awards. They called it a “seamless, on-song Bordeaux style blend,” and after eight years in the cellar, it is drinking perfectly right now. Make no mistake: If this wine were from Bordeaux and bore the words “Grand Cru Classé” on the label, it would go for at least twice as much.
54% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec
